JRID collaborated with business owner Jack Byrne and his project team on their relocation from their original South Yarra location to warehouse-style offices in Windsor. The goal was to design an inviting and engaging office space that would encourage staff to return to in-person work post-pandemic.
Jack noted that "collaboration and cross-pollination of ideas occur when staff break from desks and work in agile working spaces. This is where the magic happens."
To minimize the need for new furniture, JRID conducted an audit of their existing pieces and made a conscious effort to reupholster and reuse items whenever possible. This reflects a strong ethical commitment by both the designer and the project team.
Prioritisation of locally manufactured items including specified fabrics and materials from a previous life, such as recycled HDPE plastic and PET bottles, Greenstar-accredited fabrics and carpet backings, and PVC-free vinyls. In addition, incorporating Indigenous artworks and design elements throughout the office. With further commitment to environmental choices, the 22 boardroom and meeting room chairs were supplied from Zenith, with a tree planted for every chair purchased.
